In 2000, Governor George Ryan issued support of what was then called the Post Genomic Institute, and in 2002 funding was released for the project that would eventually become the Institute for Genomic Biology. Governor Rod Blagojevich broke ground on the construction site in June of 2003. Construction of the $75 million, 186,000 square foot state-of-the-art facility began in April 2004, was completed in November 2006, and the building was officially dedicated on March 29, 2007.
